The reasoning behind Trump's interest in gaining control of Gaza and the practicality of such an endeavor.
Feb 8, 2025
Donald Trump has caused a global uproar by suggesting that the US could "take over" and "own" Gaza, along with the resettlement of its population.
The US president later reiterated parts of this proposal on social media, stating that Gaza would be "turned over" to the US by Israel as part of his plan.
The White House quickly sought to clarify that the displacement of Palestinians would be temporary, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio referred to the plan as an "interim" arrangement.
However, the proposal has been met with widespread condemnation, including from Middle Eastern nations, key US allies, and the United Nations. Some analysts have also expressed concern that Trump's remarks could destabilize the fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
